Description: Big Top
Hoover the Dog goes large.
John Hymas, Paul Hutchinson and Tony Harris, long established mavericks of the folk world in the shape of Hoover the Dog have teamed up with four incredibly talented instrumentalists to form a brand new act named Big Top.
Most of Big Top's material as with the Hoovers is penned by violinist John Hymas and although, as with the Hoovers material the music remains a quirky celtic/folk based mix, the extra forces have widened the possibilities and given scope for an exciting new sound.
John (Little Rumba), Paul (Belshazzar’s Feast) and Tony are joined by an almost embarrassment of talent in the shape of:
Clarinettist and composer, Karen Wimhurst founder member of the now legendary Cauld Blast Orchestra and member of the acclaimed Zaum; BBC young percussionist of the year and member of outspoken Mancunian folk quartet 4Square, Jim Molyneux; Trumpeter Aaron Diaz who dips in and out of many musical genres playing with contemporary folk group The Old Dance School and mad eastern european festival favourites, The Destroyers and bassist Anthony Stevens “the swiss army knife of the musical world” who would be just as at home blasting out solo's at Ronnie Scott's – on his trumpet!
The result is a rich, layered tapestry of sound with a cinematic quality which will delight audiences from all musical backgrounds. |
