Welcome to another exciting dance programme of over fifty events! The main programme comprises a balanced mix of English & American workshops & dances, plus workshops for musicians & callers. Chippenham takes particular pride in its English dance heritage, so will include a full programme of English dance, including a Playford Ball, and Maypole dancing for adults. Contra dancing is still all the rage, so again we have the “Constitutional Contras” in the Constitutional Hall, plus the ever-popular, high-energy Zesty Contra-Dance in the Sports Hall - featuring John Meechan (one of contra-dancing’s greatest advocates), supported by English Contra Dance Band (with strong ceilidh influences).
Geoff Holland and Pendragon will again lead the Irish Set Dancing workshops & Ceili. Barrie Bullimore will lead two Running Set workshops (non-progressive in case anyone cannot attend both). There will again be practical callers’ workshops with a showcase dance, led by very experienced callers Sheila Mainwaring & Rhodri Davies, with music by Philip (Flos) Headford, providing a rare opportunity to practise the art of calling (please prepare several familiar dances).
In response to ever-increasing numbers, there will be four dances on Sunday evening, in addition to three welcome dances and two final dances; and morning dance events in Wiltshire College have been moved to the larger Studio Hall.
Providing the music are English Contra Dance Band, Philip (Flos) Headford, Kendal Green, Meltdown, Merry Conceit with Jim Coleman, Pendragon, The Falconers, and Weston Country Dance Band; your callers & leaders are Barrie Bullimore, David Pattendon, Frances Oates, Frances Richardson, Geoff Elwell, Geoff Holland, Ian Jones, Jenny Prince, John Meechan, Lynne Render, Rhodri Davies, and Sheila Mainwaring.
For souvenirs of dances or tunes experienced during the festival, many artists will be happy to sell their books & CDs; and don’t forget to visit “Folk Sales” at Wiltshire College. Finally, remember that suggestions for future years can be submitted any time via the web.
Dont forget! If you are not on the newsletter list please go to the front page of the website and click on the link and we'll send you regular updates on artists, offers and news. |
