Special Events 2010 Line Up

Artists for 2010 will be added as soon as they are booked.

Introduction to Special Events
This year we present 5 special shows. A Victorian agricultural themed concert with Wiltshire based Tinkers Bag, a coming together of 3 traditions with Craig; Morgan; Robson, a sea shanty special with Hanging Johnny, a canal show with Bedfordshire's Life and Times and a show about Rudyard Kiplings songs & Poems with Dave Webber & Anni Fentiman and Brian Peters.
These will all be set at the wonderful Cause Music & Arts centre

A Labourer’s Year - Tinkers Bag
Tinkers Bag present a performance of songs and music around the year in the life of a labourer in the 1900’s.
You can expect some seasonal favourites and some great new songs from the local band.

Three Traditions - Craig; Morgan; Robson
What happens when you bring together three performers with each with her own distinctive singing style and repertoire of material from her own part of the country? In the case of Craig Morgan Robson, the answer is a superb trio who have been described as “a harmony master-class”– but of course, few things are achieved without some hard work behind the scenes. In this new show, Moira Craig, Sarah Morgan and Carolyn Robson share some of the delights and challenges of combining three traditions, and demonstrate just how creative this rich mixture can be in a sparkling performance of solo and harmony songs from Scotland, Northumberland and Hampshire.

The Voyage Home - Hanging Johnny
After a great deal of thought & deliberation we have decided to make this the last year for the current line-up of the group, having been together, with only minor personnel changes, for the last 17 years.
In order to celebrate this they will be doing a special show with many of their favourite songs in full flow. The show is in two halves with lots of props and, hopefully the audience dressing up as sailors and their Doxies to add to the atmosphere. Lots of props will be employed to turn the Cause into a fully fledged warship!
The second half of the show will be set in a dockside tavern. Sounds really great.

Where the Working Boats Went? - Life and Times
The canals seem to have been with us forever but the first ‘modern’ canal was commissioned by the 3rd Duke of Bridgewater in 1759. ‘Canal Mania’ swept the country when people could see the benefits of water transport for the products of the Industrial Revolution. A decline and almost complete demise in the 1950s saw a reinvention of the waterways as a leisure facility but, with an eye for the ‘green’ option, could we see a return of some cargoes to the waterways? This show in song, drama, music, and dance tells the history of the canals through the eyes of the canal folk themselves at different periods of the canals’ history. The show contains 12 new songs, some rarely heard and some old favourites as well as many genuine canal stories and canal facts.

On the road to Mandalay - 'The Road to Mandalay' is a performance of the best of Peter Bellamy's
settings of Kipling's 'Barrack Room Ballads'. Songs like 'Tommy',
'Follow Me 'Ome' and 'Recessional' are performed with instrumental
arrangements and rich, three-part harmonies by Dave Webber, Anni
Fentiman and Brian Peters - the three central cast members of the
'Widow's Uniform' show that played to a full house at Chippenham ten
years ago.
"Spans quiet pathos, raw rowdy humour, vivid and often brutal
description, and a surging power: a collective experience where one
can almost feel a big marching drum beating."

Life & Times
Life and Times have been keen supporters of Chippenham so when this new show was on offer we jumped at the chance. In addition to this Barry & Graham will be seen in various guises all over the weekend including a wonderful show, with Redbournestoke morris on the Arena
