Welcome to the Youth Section.
This year the Festival has moved the events for young people from the Bridge Centre and onto the Island Park.
In it's own special Marquee, the venue will be the centre of activity for a range of activities for younger people.
The venue will be called "The Hub" and will have things happening from 10am till 8pm in the evening.
Here you can expect to get involved with workshops on Playing in a Band, Folk Theatre & Crafts, Dancing and from 6.30 till 8pm a BIG music and song Session.
Just about right to get you set up to go to the ceilidhs and other sessions
There will be an opportunity for you to perform in public too in your very own concert in the Cause Auditorium, decribed as one of the best venues in the country.
There are tutors on all these and more, some already booked to play at the Festival. Festival Favourites Shooting Roots are there again this year with their great sense of fun coupled with loads of knowledge.
If you fancy yourself as a bit of a performer then there is always a chance to shine in the open stage on the Sunday Night at the Constitutional Hall. The evening will end up with a big session.
Here is what some of some people have said about previous years at
“I like Chippenham Folk Festival because I meet lots of other young people who are into the same
things as me”
“I really enjoyed the ceilidhs at Chippenham because the bands are great, and there’s always lots
of people there.”
“My favourite part of the festival was Shooting Roots because it gave me loads of confidence for
playing the violin better.”
“I really liked the tunes we learnt in Shooting Roots Band workshops at Chippenham. The tutors
were cool too.”
“Shooting Roots at Chippenham was good because I tried some new types of dancing I’d not done
before – it was easier than it looked and loads of fun. The dances where you clashed sticks were my favourite.”
“Shooting Roots Theatre was my favourite part of the festival. We got loads of chance to be creative and I also improved my performance skills. Everyone was friendly and funny too.”
“I like Chippenham because I get to see new bands that play stuff that I’ve not heard anywhere
else. I made friends at Shooting Roots workshops, then they took me to see bands like Mawkin,
Stomp, Florida and Chris Wood. It was great.”
So if you have got this far down the page why not get on down to Chippenham this year and have some fun.
