Frances Oates started folk dancing as a teenager and danced at local clubs in Cornwall. She started calling a few years later and coached clubs for competitions. Since then she has called at all types of events throughout the country. Over the years she has travelled widely to attend dances, both calling and dancing. Frances likes to dance and call a mixture of English and American dance styles and firmly believes that dancing is a social activity and should be fun as well as informative, and that it is the best way to keep fit, both mentally and physically. Frances organises the N. Devon Folk Dance weekend now held annually at Paignton. She calls regularly at clubs in Cornwall and Devon and is the resident caller for the Illogan Folk Dance Club.
